PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
“ Pumpkin Wishes & Harvest Kisses”
This year we are celebrating 170 years as an Agricultural Society and celebrating our 168th Walkerton Little Royal fair. There have been a lot of changes in those 170 years, and through that time, one thing has been consistent, “Change.” One thing that has not changed is the support of our Sponsors and the support of our volunteers. Without those two amazing commodities that are found in rural Ontario, we would not exist. The local fairs are what bring our communities together, as family and friends to showcase the talents of the young and the more mature people in our community.
Over the years, the focus of the Walkerton Agricultural Society has been to help educate everyone on what rural life is all about and to help explain where our food comes from. It helps teach our young people that being in a community, is belonging to the community and helping the community wherever, we can. That is the true motto of a volunteer.
As always, we are looking for volunteers to help and assist with the numerous activities that happen in our community. Some of the activities that bring us together include the use of the Walkerton Agricultural Society buildings, such as, The Roots of Bruce in April,The Saugeen Hospice Garage Sale in June. Venders Markets in April and October. The Walkerton Car Show held on the last Saturday of July, The Holstein Show in August, our Ambassador program and this year we are taking part in “Doors Open” in September. Run for Health and Hike for Hospice, also use our facilities and of course our Roast Beef Dinner will be on October 9th, to help kick off, our Little Royal Fair on October 18thto 20th. We also are having our Sunday morning breakfast at 9:00 am in Building # 1 (Horse Palace) with the Saddle Show starting that morning. After the Fair is over, we always look forward to the Car and Trailer storage rentals that help us maintain our buildings and the fair. Our boardroom and facilities can also be rented out for meetings, Christmas parties or other family functions.
This year, we have the mid-way coming back again with numerous shows and activities for all age groups. I want to encourage everyone to buy the Family Weekend Pass for the fair and enjoy the whole weekend. That is right, $ 20.00 on Friday night gets you and your family in all weekend long. The Mid-way passes are extra.
